Our Garden Helpers

Chester Eastside is so lucky to have a bevy of garden helpers. In addition to everyone who helped the children plant on Saturday, Doug, Bob and Rev. Peter spread peat moss in the beds and put the final touches on our new shed. #gardening ##peatmoss #helpers #sheds #chestereastside

The Power of Peat

Can you keep a secret? The garden clubbers put peat pellets in their cups, then Barbara added marigold seeds which will be blooming by Mother’s Day as presents for their moms. We don’t want to spoil the surprise! #mothersday #marigolds #mothersdaygifts #seeds #itsasecret #chestereastside

Things are blooming!

Our Mother’s Day marigolds are growing with seeds from a packet to ensure success. Jennifer deadheaded last year’s plants and the seeds will be planted near our tomatoes as a companion to keep our hungry friends at bay. #marigolds #tomatoes #companionplanting #deadhead #chestereastside

Garden Journaling!

The garden clubbers received their journals on Saturday, which they will update throughout the growing season about the life cycle of plants and butterflies, good and bad bugs and germination. Who knew you could learn so much from digging in the dirt? #journal #growingseason #bugs #lifecycle #gardening #chestereastside

Marketing & Communications Updates Coming

Chester Eastside staff members are meeting weekly with six students from the University of Delaware who are completing a capstone course focused on updating marketing and external communications for non-profits. The Blue Hens will be conducting research, developing strategies, designing prototypes and making recommendations.
