One of the nicest things about our garden is the opportunity to do more than just get your hands in the soil (although that’s really fun!). Our children write in their journals about the crops, such as identifying bugs that help or hurt the plants. #communitygarden #fruits #vegetables #herbs #bugs #hurtorhelp #chestereastside

Pythagorean Math Lesson – Camp Phoenix
Our seventh-ninth grade campers learned about the Pythagorean Theorem (you remember a2 + b2 = c2 – the sum of the areas of the two squares on the legs (a and b) equals the area of the square on the hypotenuse (c)). A drawing and a little construction paper help to make it clear. #mathclass #pythagoreantheorem #triangle #summerlearning #chestereastside

From Math to Science!
The morning’s math morphed into science, as the seventh-ninth graders calculated the proportions of the planets. From Mercury to Neptune (any maybe even Pluto), our kids can figure out their size. #math #science #planets #proportions #chestereastside
Community Garden is Producing
Fruits, veggies and the herbs that season them always taste better when they’re from your garden. Our children have begun harvesting the spring crops, like carrots. Can tomatoes, cucumbers be far behind? #garden #springcrops #summercrops #harvest #delish #chestereastside
Video Club Update – Camp Phoenix
What is video club without a green screen? One of our campers demonstrated his version. #videoclub #greenscreen #chromakey #chestereastside

Visual Arts Club – Camp Phoenix
Cézanne, Monet and Renoir have nothing on our seven and eight-year-old campers. The Visual Arts Club focused on Impressionist painting and their waterfalls definitely display the movement’s focus on thin brush strokes, ordinary subject matter and an emphasis on light and movement. Next stop – The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. #impressionism #summercamp #metropolitanmuseumofart #painting #chestereastside

Our Future is Looking Rather Bright
Two of our campers sent this picture to Eddie that really brought joy to his day. He noted it served as a reminder in these dark times that with children like them, our future is looking rather bright! #campers #brightfuture #missyou #chestereastside
